Wskijinu’k Mtmo’taqnuow Agency Ltd., known as WMA, is an economic development organization owned by Nova Scotia’s 13 Mi’kmaw communities. Created by the 13 Nova Scotia Chiefs in 2019, WMA was established to identify and participate in business opportunities that create shared, long-term benefit for the Mi’kmaw Nation.
WMA’s work is focused on major opportunities that are difficult for any one community to pursue alone. Through partnerships, equity investments, joint ventures, and project participation, WMA helps create pathways for Mi’kmaw ownership and involvement in sectors such as clean energy, energy storage, transmission, infrastructure, health and emergency services, construction, and industrial support.
From WMA’s perspective, partnership is not only about participation in a project. It is about building economic strength, protecting Mi’kmaw interests, supporting self-determination, and creating long-term returns for the 13 Mi’kmaw communities of Nova Scotia. WMA works with industry, government, financial institutions, utilities, and community partners to pursue opportunities that align with Mi’kmaw values, environmental responsibility, and the future prosperity of the Nation.
WMA’s role varies by project. In some cases, WMA participates through majority Mi’kmaw-owned partnerships. In others, WMA supports minority equity stakes, joint ventures, Indigenous equity financing, or project partnerships that create a place for Mi’kmaw participation in major economic activity. Across all of this work, WMA’s purpose remains the same: to build prosperity and unity for the Mi’kmaw Nation through careful, transparent, and values-aligned business development.
