RELATIONSHIP
Mi’kma’ki-Municipal Limited Partnership, or MMLP, is a partnership between Wskijinu’k Mtmo’taqnuow Agency Ltd. and the Municipal Group of Companies. It brings together WMA’s role in advancing economic opportunities for Nova Scotia’s 13 Mi’kmaw communities with Municipal’s experience in heavy civil construction, infrastructure, logistics, and environmental services.
MMLP was created to support Mi’kmaq participation in major construction and infrastructure opportunities across Nova Scotia. Its focus includes workforce creation, local business involvement, training, subcontracting, and project delivery connected to work taking place in Mi’kma’ki.
The partnership can support a wide range of civil construction and infrastructure services, including road and bridge construction, road maintenance, mass excavation, rock crushing, site grading, pipe and utility work, wind farm construction, dams and marine work, site development, landfill operation, and related project services. The MMLP marketing material frames the partnership around maximizing Mi’kmaq opportunities through workforce creation, local development, and training initiatives.
From WMA’s perspective, MMLP reflects a practical model for building Mi’kmaq participation in the infrastructure economy. It allows major construction opportunities to be approached through partnership, with attention to local capacity, long-term economic benefit, and the communities and regions where the work takes place.

The new Wije’Winen Centre (Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre)

The new Wije’Winen Centre (Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre). MMLP has been contracted by Pomerleau Inc. to carry out building excavation, shoring and related services for the Centre, including the mass excavation and bedrock excavation for new foundations. MMLP was proud to subcontract some of this work to a Mi’kmaw-owned business, Gloade Construction & Excavation.
The Weavers Mountain Wind Farm

The Weavers Mountain Wind Farm project located near Antigonish. MMLP is the general contractor, overseeing the entire project. It is self-performing the civil construction work, which in 2025 includes roads and wind turbine foundations. Construction of the substation and turbine erection will take place in 2026. MMLP conducted several job fairs in 2025 for the Weavers Mountain and other projects to increase First Nation participation, including Potlotek, Sipekne’katik, the MEBO career fair in Truro, and the Green Pathways First Nation Career Fair at the Nova Scotia Community College.
