Project Overview
WMA has partnered with CIB and NSPI to deliver Atlantic Canada’s largest energy storage facility. This initiative includes three 50MW / 4-hour battery facilities in White Rock, Bridgewater, and Waverley. WMA is proud to be a partner in this initiative, building a cleaner, more resilient energy future for Mi’kma’ki and Nova Scotia.

Project Updates
Fall, 2025
The Grid-Scale Battery Project has reached a new milestone with all 84 battery containers and 32 power inverters delivered to the Bridgewater and Spider Lake sites. Crews are now completing cabling and preparing for commissioning. At White Rock, civil work continues with substation construction set to begin soon.
Over the next two months, commissioning will begin at Bridgewater and Spider Lake, while E-House units arrive at both sites. Substation work at White Rock will also get underway.
These facilities will play a key role in Nova Scotia’s clean energy transition by supporting the phase-out of coal, adding more wind and solar to the grid, and providing reliable backup power during peak demand.
Spring, 2025
The storage facility will help ensure that electricity service is available to Nova Scotians and Mi’kmaw communities by drawing and storing electricity during off-peak hours and releasing back into the grid when needed. Construction began in 2024 and will continue through 2026. The first site is expected to be operational by 2025.
