Natural Resources Canada

Natural Resources Canada, or NRCan, is a federal department whose work spans energy, minerals, forests, clean technology, climate-related programming, energy efficiency, clean fuels, and the responsible development of Canada’s natural resources.

NRCan supports programs, research, policy, funding, and technical work connected to clean energy, emissions reduction, resource development, energy systems, and the competitiveness of Canada’s natural resource sectors. Its work is closely connected to the transition toward cleaner electricity, lower-emissions energy systems, and sustainable resource development.

From the WMA’s perspective, Natural Resources Canada is connected to the broader clean energy funding environment that helps major renewable energy and storage projects move forward. This relationship supports Indigenous participation in Canada’s energy transition by helping create the conditions for Mi’kmaw involvement in clean electricity, emissions reduction, and long-term infrastructure benefit.
