Indigenous Services Canada

Indigenous Services Canada, or ISC, is a federal department that works with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis partners to support access to services, community priorities, and improved socio-economic conditions.

The department’s work is connected to Canada’s broader responsibilities to Indigenous peoples, including reconciliation, self-determination, and support for Indigenous-led capacity. Its programs and funding can support governance, service delivery, infrastructure, health, education, family services, and the organizational systems Indigenous communities and organizations need to plan, manage, and deliver priorities.

From the WMA’s perspective, Indigenous Services Canada supports economic reconciliation in practical terms. This relationship helps build the organizational capacity, governance systems, and professional support needed for Mi’kmaw communities to participate in major opportunities connected to land, resources, infrastructure, and long-term regional development.
